Thinking about our commitment to sustainability and our contribution to a better world, in 2016 we completed the installation of a Solar Photovoltaic Plant with the objective of generating the energy we consume in our manufacturing process. Currently, this system generates an average of 690,000 kWh/year.
We used an area of approximately 4,000 m² to install 2,159 photovoltaic modules with the unit capacity to generate 265 Wh. The panels are composed of silicon cells and can generate and conduct electrical energy from the incidence of sunlight. The energy generated by the panels in continuous mode goes through inverters that transform it into alternating current to be compatible with the energy supplied by the concessionaire that serves us. The surplus energy is then sent directly to the local utility network generating a credit that will be consumed during the night and/or on days when there is less incidence of sunlight.
According to ANEEL data; At the time of its installation this was the largest private photovoltaic power generation system in Brazil.
It is estimated that the R$ 3 million investment will be paid back in just over 8 years. However, for Bio Extratus, more important than the financial return is knowing that we are contributing to the preservation of natural resources and helping to build a better world.
After all, because we have not sought as our main alternative source of energy generation any fossil fuel derivative, we stopped emitting to the atmosphere approximately 360 tons ofCO2 per year.
